Viking Malt has received a remarkable nomination from the Lahti Builders Association. The grounds for the selection were: “Significant investments in Lahti”. Viking Malt has long roots in the Lahti area, our parent company, Polttimo Oy, celebrated its 140th Anniversary in 2023.
Our recent major construction project is the construction of a state-of-the-art and energy-efficient malting house in Lahti. The value of the project is approximately 90 million euros, making it one of the largest investments in the Lahti region by the Finnish food industry in the past decade.
Viking Malt is the largest malt producer in the Nordic countries. Our company operates in five different countries: Finland, Sweden, Denmark,
Lithuania and Poland. The Group’s turnover is around 300 million euros,
and the company employs about 270 professionals, with about 70 working in Lahti.
The new malting house in Lahti was completed in spring 2023 and inaugurated on May 23rd, 2023. The factory manufactures products for the global beverage and brewing industry, with a capacity of about 85 000 tonnes per year.
The Lahti Builders Association represents various sectors of construction in Lahti. The association was founded in 1953, and last autumn it celebrated its 70th anniversary. The association has about 250 members, including construction industry professionals.
This year, the Builder of the Year Award was presented at the Lahti Construction Fair RAKSA by the Chairman of the Lahti Builders Association, Petri Lahtinen, and the Secretary, Erkki Vuopala, and it was received by representatives of Viking Malt Oy, Pär-Gustaf Relander, Petri Koskela, and Lars Weckström.
